Taika Wait, one of the most accomplished directors who has also won the Academy Award for his brilliant direction, has added another jewel to his crown. He was accorded with the Oscar for “Jojo Rabbit.” He has previous distinctions too, and he has proved the world yet again that the academy award was not a matter of luck as you can’t get lucky every time, and it’s the hard work which pays in the longer run. So if he did it again, there must be something which keeps him ahead of his contemporaries.

The award-winning director revealed that working on a film is not as stressful as to get an Oscar. He was overwhelmed by the award, but he also told me that the stardom you get after winning an Oscar can be taxing and stressful at times. Stardom is not something which only brings name and fame, but it also induces a sense of responsibility as every word you speak and every action you do will be judged through the lens of Oscar. The best part about the Taiki Waititi’s winning an Oscar is the fact that he is the first Maori to win an oscar. He dedicated his award to all those Maori kids who want to achieve big and want to pursue writing or a career in cinema. Indeed a humble gesture from someone who brought such a big honor to all the Maoris, who are indigenous to New Zealand.

Stress could be frustrating at times, and no wonder the Oscar winner is a bit frustrated, too, but humble at the same time. He won the academy award, also but nothing of this sort has surfaced, and there isn’t a chance that the success will go over his head. He never fails to wear his Maori identity on his sleeve, and that’s the very reason despite getting such a huge honor he is not flaunting it by giving lousy speeches.

He also talked about his life as an immigrant and how he remained immune from any discrimination. He said he was lucky to have not been subjected to any discrimination, although he never actually denied that there is no discrimination existing in society. He said he remained aloof from discrimination primarily because of his accent, as nobody was able to tell that he has his origin from New Zealand. Although he did talk about racism with browns and Hispanics, these are societal problems, and it’s great that people now choose to talk about this kind of thing even at events like Oscar.

Taiki Waititi has been a phenomenal filmmaker, and there is a hell lot of expectation from him, and it’s going to be a long journey for him. It’s expected from him to make even better movies and aim towards bringing a social change and contribute to the society in every possible way he can in his capacity.
