Kobe Bryant, 41 years old, the iconic basketball star who spent 20 years with the Lakers, was dead Sunday afternoon when he crashed on the hills above Calabasas in the Helicopter.

His daughter Gianna, 13, was also confirmed by the NBA authorities.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva of Los Angeles County said that nine individuals are on the copter— a pilot and eight passengers. He didn’t confirm who died until the next kin was informed, he said. The L.A. County Coroner office said on Sunday night that the recovery effort is due to the crash site and its remote location for several days.
