Man Accused Of Shooting Police Officers Charged In 62 Other Attempted Murder Cases

Prosecutors have registered dozens of new charges against a man accused of firing six Philadelphia Police personal during an hours-long standoff in August. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office states that Maurice Hill will face an additional of 62 charges of attempted murder charges for shooting at police officers.

Larry Krasner, the Philadelphia District Attorney said in a statement that “Our office doesn’t considered these new allegations lightly. Prosecutors examined a thorough investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department, which included hundreds of interviews with the police officers at were responding in the incident. These 62 officers did not got gunshot injuries, but they were all shot upon by Hill.”

Police stated that Hill shot six police officers, held two others hostage and shot dozens of rounds of gunfire at police during the seven-hour standoff in Nicetown-Tioga.

The officers who were shot by Hill were not seriously injured.

Hill was in court on Thursday for a preliminary trial that lasted nearly four hours. During the trial, several police officers presented gripping testimony about what happened on during the shootout and how they escaped the scene.

Officer Shaun Parker first entered Hill’s house and he said in the trial that police utilized a ram to get through the front door of the home.

Parker told the judge that “I quickly noticed a flash and I knew I was shot by Hill. I took cover, started firing into the kitchen. I was thinking that how I was going to get out of the home. It was constant gunfire from the kitchen.”

Parker finally broke a window of the house with his gun, climbed out and ran to a patrol car took cover.

However, Hill’s defense attorney Edward Meehan pointed out that police did not have a search warrant for Hill’s house. Hill’s defense also questioned Parker if he or anyone shout police before entering the house. Parker did not remember whether the shout or yell.

Four other people are also facing charges in connection to the seven-hour standoff.
