The Leader Of A Street Gang In A Chicago Suburb Was Arrested For Allegedly Attempting To Aid ISIS, The Justice Department Announced

On Friday, the Justice Department announced that the leader of a street gang in a Chicago area was arrested for allegedly trying to aid ISIS.

According to the federal complaint, Jason Brown, also known as “Abdul Ja’Me,” allegedly gave $500 to an individual 3 separate times in 2019, believing that the recipient would then wire that money to an (ISIS) Islamic State fighter in Syria.

In a recorded communication collected by the Justice Department, Brown can be heard saying, “it [jihad] cannot be done like it is in Syria. In the U.S., jihad is done by expanding the word of Islam.”

What Brown, 37-year-old, did not acknowledge that the individual with whom he was dealing was working with law enforcement and the assumed ISIS fighter was an undercover officer.

According to the complaint, Brown is the leader of the AHK street gang in the Chicago area of Bellwood. AHK consists of ex-members of the Black P Stones, the Gangster Disciples, and the Four Corner Hustlers, who turned to Islam — an AHK condition. Brown allegedly recruited and radicalized members to aid ISIS.

Brown is assumed to have become radicalized through a stint in a Georgia prison over a firearms offense in 2016. During that time in the prison, he grew familiar with the work of Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal.

“I be looking at all that stuff … every day … Islamic ahh, it is called ahh jihadiology. … There is like 10-minute videos. … They used to have videos like every day, like three, four videos,”  Brown was heard speaking in a recorded conversation.

If someone mocks the prophet Mohammed, “his head gotta go,” Brown reportedly said.

If convicted, Brown could meet a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

AHK members trafficked numerous narcotics in the Chicago area, and often boasted about the gang’s actions on social media, officials contend.
