Livermorium Will Release Smartphone With A QWERTY Keyboard In Q1 2019

Earlier at CES 2018, Motorola had announced the Livermorium Slider Keyboard Moto Mod for the Moto Z-series. This module was supposed to be attached at the back of the phone, bringing the features of a sliding keyboard to the Moto Z lineup. But this idea didn’t seem to show up as Livermorium cancelled the crowdfunding project in favour of another high end landscape slider smartphone.

Now just after the success of CES 2019, we have an update from the Livermorium team, it is still working on a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard and hopefully will be released by Q1 2019.

According to XDA Developers emails which are part of the Livermorium promotion campaign- now it is called F(x) Technology, has detailed a few features of its upcoming smartphone. It will have a 6″ AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and curved sides.

The latest smartphone produced will not have a notch, which seems to be the current trend in most of the smartphone being launched. Instead, it will have slimmer bezels which will improve the screen-to-body ratio. With this feature, it will certainly improve the typing experience when the phone is held in landscape orientation.

The keyboard chosen by the team will be a five-row keyboard with a dedicated number row just about the alphabets. The symbol keys also are well organised so that the alphabet keys are placed in the middle of the keyboard. All this positioning of the keyboards makes it equidistant for both thumbs while typing. Like in a normal keyboard the Ctrl, Shift and Fn keys are provided on both sides which makes it easy to input the combination of these keys. The keyboard can be easily modified into QWERTZ and Scandinavian layouts. The keys are backlit which makes it easy to use the keyboard in low light.

The keyboard will be shipped with a stock version of Android Pie. But it will also come with a new launcher as stock Android launchers don’t seem to work well with landscape orientation. Along with this, the F(x) Technology team has also developed landscape-friendly apps for email and calendar.

F(x) Technology it is learnt will also be providing support loaner devices and driver support (under NDA) to core developers. They have approached Lineage OS developers and also has plans to work with Sailfish OS developers and other communities.

If everything goes well we may see the device released in Q1 2019. Please leave your comments on what you think about this device.
