Rejoice, for in a recent blog post, the Mountain View, California-based tech titan announced that for the first time, Google Drive on the web will support many of the common Keyboard Shortcuts users of desktops and laptops have long become accustomed to, including copy, paste, and cut.

Until now, users of Google Drive had to these mundane tasks manually by right-clicking on a file and then selecting the action from the menu. Any long-term user of the software will tell you how annoying that was, especially when moving across tabs.

The official announcement read, “You can now use familiar keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + C, Ctrl + X, and Ctrl + V to copy, cut and paste Google Drive files in your Chrome browser. This saves you time by allowing you to copy one or more files and move them to new locations in Drive, and across multiple tabs, with fewer clicks”.

In addition to copy, paste, and cut, users can open files or folders in a new tab using Ctrl+Enter, in order to view multiple files at once, or use different tabs to organize files between different folders.

The new keyboard shortcuts are in the process of being rolled out now to Google Workspace users and users with personal Google accounts, with Google Chrome as the web browser.

Google is currently still in the process of transferring its enterprise customers from G Suite, a previous iteration of the product over to Google Workplace, with some customers concerned about the changes to the specification of the product.
