You don’t have to let some stubborn “GPS signal not found” error lock you out of the ecstatic Pokémon Go world. The game has arguably raised the bar and both Android and iOS gamers love it. Two things that make it possible to play the Pokémon Go are a strong internet connection coupled with a connection to a GPS tower as well.

Although the game can still be played without GPS – good news for phones and tablets without a GPS radio – in which case you will have to find yourself in places where the Wi-Fi signals are pretty strong such as in bars or restaurants because you can still be located with Wi-Fi signals, the experience will be half-baked and competing with others who are are not in similar shoes will be tough.

So in case you have the GPS error bounce you off or limit your game play whether on your Galaxy or iPhone, here’s how to fix it:

Check If The GPS Is On
Although GPS radios are a tradition for most Android cell phones and iPhones, they are often turned off by default in order to conserve battery power. So the first thing you want to do is check if the GPS is on indeed.

For Android Users

1. Go to the phone Settings.
2. Scroll down to Privacy and Safety and tap it.
3. You should find Location. Tap on it.
4. Ensure that the Location Toggle is on. Turn it on if it is off.
5. Tap on Location Method. For some phones, it is rather Location Mode.
6. Select GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks.
7. Ensure that your Wi-Fi is also turned on before you launch the game and throughout.

For iPhone Users

1. Go to Settings.
2. Select Privacy.
3. Then select Location Services.
4. Ensure that the toggle indicates on.

If you are running iOS 5 or higher, you can go on and set individual access to the GPS for the Pokémon Go (or any other app). Note that Location Services must be switched on before this option can be accessed.

Turn On Wi-Fi
For some reason, Wi-Fi has to be on always even if you won’t be connecting to any connection.

For Android Users

1. Once on the Home screen, tap Apps.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Wi-Fi and turn it on.

For iPhone Users

1. Go to Command Center by simply swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
2. Tap on the Wi-Fi symbol.
3. Ensure that it is highlighted.
4. Swipe down again and get back to the game.

If still the error won’t go away, try these steps as well and see.

• Step outside and stand still for some 30 to 60 seconds to try and regain the connection as sometimes phones struggle to connect with GPS towers when we are indoors.
• Open Google Maps and leave it running in the background and go back to the game. Many people assert that it fixes the error.
• For iPhone users, go to Settings and Reset Network Settings.
• For Android users, go to “About Phone” and then tap on your build number 7 times to enable developer options. From there, go to locations and disable mock locations.
• Check for Updates and ensure you have the latest version because bugs in older versions may have been fixed, especially after the many complaints.
• If none of these work, then Restart the phone and relaunch the game and see.

If none of these fixes the error still, the probability is that the problem is from the developer’s end and not you. In fact, the game is plagued with so many unstable servers so perhaps you shouldn’t so worried. But do check back maybe in an hour or two to see if any problems have been rectified and enjoy your play!
