Amazon Introduces Passkey Registration for User Authentication

Amazon has announced that its users can now log in to their accounts using Passkey Registration, enabling biometric authentication such as Face ID or Touch ID. With Passkey, Amazon aims to provide customers with both convenience and security in their Amazon experience. Dave Treadwell, Senior Vice President of ecommerce at Amazon, expressed excitement about being an early adopter of this new authentication method, stating that it aligns with their vision for a more secure, passwordless internet.

Passkeys were originally introducedthe FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium, but it is Apple that has popularized the idea. Since the announcement of Passkeys at WWDC 2022, Apple has incorporated support for it on their devices. Starting in May 2023, Google will also offer support for Passkeys.

By using a Passkey on Amazon, customers prove that they have access to their device and can unlock it. This eliminates the need for customers to remember unique passwords or use easily guessable identifiers like names or birthdays. Passkey registration aims to simplify the login process while ensuring a high level of security for Amazon users.

This new authentication method is a positive step towards creating a more user-friendly and secure online experience. With the rising need for strong authentication measures, Passkey registration provides a convenient and effective solution for Amazon customers.
