OnePlus Continues to Ignore Wireless Charging, Despite Market Expectations

Tags:

Summary: OnePlus has once again defended its decision to exclude wireless charging from its flagship smartphones, including the OnePlus Open. The Chinese brand claims that fast charging is superior and wireless charging is unnecessary. However, wireless charging has become a standard feature on smartphones due to its convenience, and customers expect it on high-end devices. OnePlus fails to acknowledge that fast charging and wireless charging serve different purposes. Fast charging is useful for quick top-ups, while wireless charging adds convenience to daily charging routines. It is disappointing that OnePlus continues to dismiss wireless charging, especially given that it was capable of implementing both 65W wired charging and 50W wireless charging on the OnePlus 9 Pro. Customers should not have to accept this excuse, as wireless charging is expected on flagship devices in 2023. The brand’s claim that weight and thickness are the reasons for excluding wireless charging is also questionable, considering that the OnePlus Open is slimmer and lighter than its competitors that feature wireless charging. However, OnePlus does have a legitimate reason for omitting wireless charging on the OnePlus Open: the large camera module protruding from the back of the device. The size of the camera would make wireless charging inefficient and alignment difficult. Overall, OnePlus’s repeated excuse for disregarding wireless charging is frustrating and lacks logic.
