CBI’s search for missing JNU student expands to Raj

Jaipur: CBI’s search for Najeeb Ahmed, a JNU student who went missing on October 15, 2016, has reached Rajasthan. Now, his poster images will be displayed in the state’s hospitals, mental asylums and other health centres appealing to the public to inform CBI if they have any information about his whereabouts.

CBI, which is investigating into the case, wrote to the state Chief Secretary on November 9 to send information if any hospital provided treatment to Ahmed.

Ahmed, a student of M. Sc Biotechnology, had gone missing from the Mahi-Mandvi Hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on October 15 last year following a scuffle with some other students, allegedly affiliated to a student organisation.

Acting on the CBI’s request, the chief secretary directed health department through home department to take up the issue. Taking the matter on serious note, the health department issued directions to all chief medical health officers and principal medical officers of the state to implement the directions issued by chief secretary on Monday.

Ahmed’s poster with his picture will be pasted in all the institutes, hospitals, and mental asylums mentioning any person who may give information of the present whereabouts of Najeeb Ahmed, will be given a cash reward of Rs10 lakhs. The name and identity of informant will be kept secret.

Also, directions have also been issued to all shelter homes, renbaseras and NGOs dealing with missing persons to send information if they have spotted Ahmed.

Besides, CBI has also requested to the state government to appoint a nodal officer for proper coordination and future communication.

In the letter CBI mentioned, “Since the investigation of the case is being monitored by the Delhi High Court, it is requested to provide the information sought at the earliest.”

In the posters, it is mentioned that Ahmed , a permanent resident of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, is missing from Delhi since October 15. In this regard, an FIR has been registered with CBI and investigation is being conducted.
