The second in a series of exhibitions around the life and times of Indian prime ministers, the four-day show will display nearly 500 books on and by those who occupied the top office.
While the largest collection is likely to be on and by Nehru, the exhibition also has books on interim PM of two terms, Gulzari Lal Nanda, Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who have authored books and have been subjects of multiple works, and about 80 titles on H D Deve Gowda, I K Gujral and Rajiv Gandhi, among others. Books on PM Narendra Modi are al so part of the exhibition.
Speaking to TOI, NMML director Shakti Sinha said, “Since getting the go-ahead for setting up the museum on prime ministers of India, the book section committee at NMML has had a special focus on acquiring books on PMs that were published in the last two years, and which were not already a part of our collection. While the collection will be put on display from November 13 to 17, they will also form key components of the larger museum project on PMs.”
The exhibition will be inaugurated by Prasar Bharati chairman and NMML executive committee member Surya Prakash. Speaking to TOI, Prakash said, “In its last executive committee meeting, NMML decided to undertake activities including giving the museum a complete makeover, and making it state-of-theart with enhanced interactivity for museum-goers. This is a major exercise separate from the proposed museum on prime ministers of India.”
The selection for the exhibition includes Nehru’s biography by Union minister M J Akbar, collections on Indira Gandhi by Kushwant Singh, Catherine Frank, Jairam Ramesh and Sagarika Ghosh, works by former journalist M Chalapathi Rao, Nayantara Sehgal, Sharada Prasad, Manishankar Aiyar, Arun Shourie and Janardan Thakur.
Shakti Sinha, who served as Vajpayee`s personal secretary , said NMML will hold separate exhibitions on Vajpayee and P V Narasimha Rao in December.
