According to the government railway police (GRP), the passengers were travelling on the top of Kota-Bayana fast passenger due to excessive rush on the eve of Raksha Bandhan.
“After the train reached Sawai Madhopur, some of the passengers jumped off the train. While jumping off it, three of them were hit by an express train running on the parellel track,” said an officer with GRP.
It was panic at the railway station when people saw blood stained bodies as well as the injured.
Few passengers got down from the train on the railway track side instead of the platform side and were run over by the Gandhidham-Howrah Superfast Express which was passing at a high speed from the station, the SHO of GRP Railway station Kishanlal told PTI.
Four of the five deceased were identified as Kamal (19), Nitesh (14), Man Singh and Mukesh (both 35), he said.
