Panel pulls up govt for failure to fill OBC jobs in univ faculties

NEW DELHI: A parliamentary Committee has slammed the government for high backlog in OBC vacancies in faculties in universities.

In its report on the HRD ministry, the committee on welfare of OBCs said till 2015, there were 50 backlog vacancies in Vishwa Bharti, 45 in Harisingh Gaur University, Sagar, 44 in Guru Ghasidas University, 34 in Pondicherry University, 33 in Tezpur University and 32 each in Assam University, Delhi University and Allahabad University.

Remarking that backlog were also high in other universities and technical institutions, the panel rejected the argument that the unfilled seats were on account of dearth of Suitable Obc Candidates.

“The committee are not inclined to accept that the backlog in recruitment under OBC category could be attributed to dearth of suitable OBC candidates. The committee are deeply concerned to note that central educational institutions have not taken adequate steps to fulfil the 27% reservation for OBC faculty posts,” the panel noted. tnn
