Three drown in rain-fed nullah, moderate to heavy shower expected

Jaipur: Moderate to heavy showers at many places in the state took toll on three teenagers as they were swept away while taking bath at a rain-fed nullah at Pempura village near Gangapur city in Sawai Madhopur on Sunday. In its forecast, the met office has said that heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at many places in state for next 24 hours.

According to police, three boys— Ketan Mali (13), Lavkush Mali (14) and Prem Singh Mali (15) — drowned after not being able to resist strong flow of water while taking bath in a rain-fed nullah on Saturday late evening. “All three deceased were relatives. Their bodies were sent to their family members who opted out of autopsy. No case has been registered,” said a senior police officer.

Jaipurities woke up to a pleasant morning as a minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius, almost 2 degrees below normal notch, was recorded. The day remained pleasant as clouds hovered over the sky most of the time accompanied by scattered rainfall. A maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in the afternoon followed by drizzles at few places in the evening.

Meanwhile, places like Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, Dausa, Sikar, Alwar, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur, Karauli, Bikaner, Ajmer, Bhilwara and few other places in the state witnessed heavy rainfalls.

Many low-lying areas in districts including Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi and Rajsamand faced heavy waterlogging. Reodhar (Sirohi) received a rainfall of 90mm which was highest in the state followed by Mount Abu (Sirohi), Balotara (Barmer) and Raniwara (Jalore) where a rainfall of 60mm was recorded, Shergarh (Jodhpur) received 50mm, Sirohi and Gudhamalani (Barmer) each received 50mm. Many places witnessed a rainfall varying from 20mm-10mm.

So far, monsoon has been good this year as an average rainfall of 95.07mm has been received till Sunday compared to the normal rainfall of 62.29mm.
