Kochi: Two days after launching Google Wallet in India, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has added Google Wallet to its digital ticketing options for metro passengers.
On Friday, Google and KMRL announced their partnership to integrate Google Wallet and KMRL services powered by Prudent Technologies.
Kochi Metro is the first metro service to introduce ticketing through the Google Wallet app. Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows users to securely store cards, tickets, passports, keys and IDs. You can download the app from the Android Play Store.
As per the new feature, passengers can purchase a QR code ticket for Kochi Metro trains directly from the app and save the ticket in the app to access it while traveling. Passengers can cancel their tickets through this app.
Speaking at the launch event, KMRL Managing Director Loknath Behera said the facility is expected to simplify the ticketing process for passengers and help increase metro traffic.
Behera, who is also the managing director of Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML), said that the system will soon be extended to water metro services and has already directed the digital arm of KWML to implement the system soon.
“We are delighted to partner with KMRL to offer an end-to-end ticketing solution that enables passengers to securely access and manage the ticketing process. From issuing tickets to canceling tickets, they are there when you need them,” said Ram Babatla, CEO, Android and Head of Engineering, Google India.
Jejo George, Director of Prudent Technologies, said that the integration of Google Wallet and KMRL is an important step towards revolutionizing the digital world.
