According to a market research firm, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max was the best-selling model in the first quarter of 2024. The company’s flagship reportedly accounted for more than half of Apple’s sales last quarter. Four of the top five smartphones were newer iPhone models, and the top ten best-selling smartphones were from both Apple and Samsung. Seven of the ten models were high-end smartphones, but for the first time every device on the list had 5G.
According to Counterpoint Research’s latest global monthly cell phone sales model tracker, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Standard rank first and second, respectively. In fact, all four models of Apple’s latest smartphone range are on the list of the ten best-selling smartphones. The iPhone 15 Pro took third place, followed by the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 15 Plus in eighth place.
Like Apple, South Korean technology company Samsung also had five smartphones on Counterpoint’s list of top ten best-selling smartphones. In the first quarter of 2024, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra ranked fifth as the company’s best-selling device. This was followed by the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G in sixth place and the Galaxy A54 in seventh place.
The standard model Galaxy S24 ranked 9th in Counterpoint’s top 10 phones for the first quarter of 2024. According to the market research firm, this phone ranks just behind the iPhone 15 Plus, which is one spot higher. The Galaxy A34 is the tenth phone in the market research firm’s list of best-selling smartphones.
According to Counterpoint, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max offer better hardware than the company’s standard models, and this difference has led more customers to opt for the higher-end models. These include new action buttons, a powerful A17 Pro chip, a telephoto camera and a titanium body.
Likewise, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series smartphones now feature new artificial intelligence (GenAI) features such as circle-to-search, navigation support and real-time call translation. Counterpoint also expects premium features like GenAI to roll out to more smartphones as customers have more time to upgrade their phones due to limited hardware differentiation.
