According to recent reports, Apple is developing new Ipad Air models that will be available in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch screen sizes.

Details about the larger sixth-generation Ipad Air’s display technology leaked online a month before Apple’s announcement. Ross Young, CEO and co-founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), revealed that the model called the 12.9-inch iPad Air will have a better display than its smaller sibling.

Yang claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Air will feature a mini-LED display. It’s a significant upgrade over the 10.9-inch IPS LCD panel on the iPad Air (5th generation) (Review) that Apple currently sells. Mini LED screens offer significantly better image quality than LCD panels in terms of brightness and energy consumption.

Yang said Apple plans to use the mini-LED panels left over from the 12.9-inch iPad Pro model for the larger iPad Air models. Previous reports suggested that the company’s next-generation iPad Pro models will use OLED screens for the first time.

This means that the larger iPad Air (6th generation) model is expected to come with a significant display upgrade, although it is currently unclear whether the 10.9-inch model will feature an IPS LCD display. That’s because Apple’s smaller iPad Pro model has a slightly larger 11-inch screen.

The company could also increase the screen size of the smaller iPad Air by reusing smaller LED panels, but we’ll have to wait until the company unveils its next iPad model to know more about its specifications.

Unlike previous models, this year’s iPad Air models may also offer a landscape camera, allowing you to make video calls while the iPad is in landscape mode. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Garman, Apple plans to release new iPad Air and iPad Pro models in May.
