Google announced its first foray into the folding space with the Pixel Fold last May. The Pixel Fold 2 is said to come with a new design and hardware upgrades. However, a new report suggests that Google could change its nomenclature for the foldable smartphone.
The tech giant is reportedly planning to launch its next foldable device called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This is a big change from the original Pixel Fold. In addition, the next Pixel 9 series will include four models.
A report from Android Authority, citing Google insiders, suggests that Google will use a different name for the Pixel Fold 2. The next foldable Pixel may be called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold instead of the Pixel Fold 2. This renaming strategy suggests the following: The idea is to integrate the upcoming foldable smartphone into the Pixel 9 series rather than keeping it as a standalone device.
The publication also claims that this year’s Pixel 9 series will include four models: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The latter is internally referred to as “sequential”. All of these models are said to run on the Tensor G4 SoC.
If Google were to move forward with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and integrate the second generation of the foldable device into the Pixel 9 series, it would launch in October alongside the rest of the Pixel 9 series, rather than Google I/O in May. that is expected
Google has not yet confirmed the names of Pixel Fold 2 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Of course, things could change between now and the phone’s final launch, so all of these details should be viewed with caution.
The Pixel Fold was announced at the Google I/O 2023 event last May. The base model with 256GB storage was priced at $1,799 (approximately Rs. 147,500).
The Pixel Fold runs on Google’s Tensor G2 SoC, along with the Titan M2 security chip and 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. It features a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel main lens, a 10.8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10.8-megapixel dual PD telephoto lens.
For selfies, there is a 9.5 megapixel sensor on the outer display and an 8 megapixel selfie camera on the inside. The phone packs a 4821mAh battery and supports 30W charging and wireless charging.
