Leica Leitz Phone 3 announced with 47.2 MP main camera and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC

Leica Leitz Phone 3 was presented on Thursday as the successor to the Leica Leitz Phone 2, which was announced in November 2022. The latest phone is powered by Qualcomm’s 2nd generation Snapdragon 8 chip, but key features from the previous phone remain. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, a 47.2-megapixel main camera and a 5,000mAh battery. The design of the Leitz Phone 3 is intended to be based on the optics of Leica cameras and to give users a better look thanks to the structured optics.

The Leica Leitz Phone 3 is available in one color: black. Pricing for the device has not yet been announced, but it will only be available in Japan starting April 19, the company said in a press release. According to promotional images on the Leica website, the promotional lens cap can be purchased with an external phone cover, sold as a package or as an additional accessory.

Specifications and features of the Leica Leitz Phone 3

The Leica Leitz Phone 3 has a 6.6-inch WUXGA+ (2730 x 1260 pixels) Pro IGZO OLED display. This phone supports the 2nd generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chip along with 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. The storage space can be expanded up to 1 TB via a microSDXC card. The phone runs on Android 14 and also features a custom UI.

The Leica Leitz Phone 3’s optics include a 1-inch CMOS sensor with 47.2 megapixels and 6x digital zoom as well as a dual rear camera unit with a wide-angle lens and a 1.9 megapixel depth sensor. The front camera,

meanwhile, is equipped with a 12.6 megapixel sensor with 8x digital zoom. The camera system is powered by the Leitz Looks software. This is intended to help simulate the look of popular Leica M lenses such as Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50, Summilux-M 1:1.4/28 and Summilux on Leica mobile phones. M 1:1.4/35.

Like its predecessor, the Leica Leitz Phone 3 has a 5,000 mAh battery that can be charged via a USB Type-C port. The phone also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, Mobile Pay and NFC connectivity. It has a 3.5mm audio jack and is IP68 dust and waterproof. For security reasons, it also comes with an under-display fingerprint sensor. The size of the main body is 77mm x 161mm x 9.3mm and its weight is 209 grams.
