WhatsApp Spotted Working on AI-Powered Image Editor, Ask Meta AI Feature

According to the feature tracker, Whatsapp is currently working on a feature that will allow users to edit images using editing tools powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). If this feature is introduced in the future, users may be able to quickly change the background, change the style, or “enhance” images using artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, the company is also working on a feature that will allow users to ask questions directly from the search bar of their Meta AI service.

WhatsApp for Android’s latest beta update 2.24.7.13 includes code for the AI-powered image editor, according to feature tracker WABetaInfo, which has a long track record of discovering new features in messaging apps before release. This feature is still under development, so users who have signed up for the beta version of the app cannot test it at this time.

A screenshot published by WABetaInfo shows an early version of the feature in the interface that appears when you send a picture on WhatsApp for Android. A green icon will appear at the top left of the HD icon. When you tap on it, you will be presented with three options: Background, Change Style, and Expand. This feature is still under development, so it is currently unclear what each of these features will do.

Meanwhile, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.7.14 contains details of another feature discovered by WABetaInfo. This tracker offers the ability to search for Meta AI using the search bar at the top of the app. Meta AI is the company’s generative artificial intelligence assistant for Meta products, designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Please note that both features are still under development and therefore you will not be able to test them even after you update your app to the latest version. These features will be refined and improved and may be released to testers in the Beta channel before being released to all users. They will also be available for iOS users and will provide equivalent functionality on both mobile platforms.
