Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 With Support for On-Device Generative AI, 200-Megapixel Camera Support Launched

Qualcomm on Monday announced the launch of its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which includes several artificial intelligence (AI) features on the device. The new 4nm chipset is a cheaper version of the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that launched last October, and sits on top of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, the company’s flagship chip starting in 2022. In addition to the hardware capabilities of the company’s flagship processors, it also supports artificial intelligence models with a production speed of up to 10 billion parameters.

According to the company, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 mobile platform will be available in smartphones from companies such as Honor, iQoo Redmi, Realme and Xiaomi. Qualcomm also announced that the first phone with the latest chipset will be available later this month, but did not provide any further information about the phone or its specifications.

The newly introduced Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 has a prime core (Cortex-X4) clocked at 3.0 GHz, four “performance” cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.8 GHz and three “efficient” cores, which are clocked at 2.8 GHz. This core is 4 nm in size. The chipset’s 2.0GHz octa-core chipset and Adreno GPU offer HDR gaming support and fast hardware ray tracing in supported games, according to the company. It supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x memory and UFS 4.0 storage at up to 4200MHz.

Qualcomm is also touting the AI ​​capabilities of its Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip. It supports on-device generated AI models with up to 10 billion parameters. The chip supports more than 30 large language models (LLM) and large view models (LVM). Launching Gemini Nano, Llama 2, Baichuan-7B, etc. The company says that the on-device generative AI assistant can generate content from text, audio or image messages, and the photo magnifier tool can use AI to generate images outside the image frame.

Powered by Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, the smartphone can capture 200MP images and the chipset features an 18-bit ISP triple setup. The chip also supports AI-based facial recognition enabled by the Always-on Recognition ISP via the Qualcomm Sensing Hub. The company’s Snapdragon Low Light Vision (LLV) technology is also said to improve the quality of videos recorded in low-light environments.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 will support 4K and Quad HD+ displays with frequencies of 60 and 144 Hz, respectively. The chipset also supports an ultra-low-power always-on camera, which is said to be separate from the rest of the phone’s hardware and enables quick facial unlocking on the phone.

The new chipset supports the 5G modem RF system Snapdragon Dual Sim Dual Active (DSDA) support for 5G and 4G networks with a maximum download speed of up to 5Gbps and an upload speed of up to 3.5Gbps.

The Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system in the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 offers download speeds of up to 5.8 Gbps over Wi-Fi 7 networks. The chip also supports Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity via two Bluetooth antennas, as well as support for Snapdragon Audio, Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast streaming, and Qualcomm’s aptX audio codec.
