In a statement Nepal’s Ministry of Finance has recalled the prompt support from the Government of India in the rescue and search operation immediately after 2015 earthquake.

India has released 2.1 billion Nepalese rupees grant towards reimbursement of 1st tranche of housing support to 42,086 earthquake affected beneficiaries in Nuwakot and Gorkha districts.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over a cheque of grant to Finance Secretary of Nepal Dr. Rajan Khanal in Kathmandu on Friday.

Nepal’s Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada was also present on the occasion. India and Nepal had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in February 2016 for 100 million US dollar grant to support reconstruction of 50,000 private houses in Nuwakot and Gorkha districts.

Since March 2018,  the Government of India in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) providing Socio-Technical Facilitation to housing beneficiaries in both these districts.

Under this initiative, the owners are being provided help to ensure that their homes comply with earthquake resilient norms.

The Government of India remains committed to continue supporting the people and Government of Nepal in their full recovery from the 2015 devastating earthquake.
