When is Education Most Valuable?

Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Anna Miller. Please Enjoy!

In today’s world of cutthroat competition, it’s impossible to survive without a decent Education. It’s the key that opens the doors to a good job and a stable life. And with a strong academic foundation, it’s easy to change the direction of your life and start afresh when things are not going too well. But when is education most valuable? Are all forms of education equal or are some more valuable than the others? If you’re looking for the best kind of education there is, here’s what you need to do:

  • Lay a strong foundation: If you really value education, you must start building your academic reputation from the time you’re in school. It’s not just enough to earn good grades, you also need to realize what’s important and what’s not. It’s not enough to just memorize your lessons and reproduce them at exam time. Rather, your education at school must extend beyond academia and encompass other aspects of growing up as well. You learn more than just your subjects at school; you learn how to interact with your peers and superiors, how to beat peer pressure and be your own person, and how to choose your own path instead of following herd mentality.
  • Choose the best institutions: Once you graduate from high school, it’s important to choose your college carefully. You will need good grades and a strong academic reputation to support your application. If you study in prestigious and reputable institutions, your degree becomes that much more valuable. You’re treated among the elite in the job market and snapped up by the best in the business even before you graduate.
  • Select the right courses: When you choose a major that you’re not interested in or have an aptitude for, you tend to keep changing it and wasting much of your freshman and even sophomore years. So choose a course that you enjoy and which will improve your marketability in the real world. You’ll find college more enjoyable and also be able to excel without too much of an effort.
  • Make the best use of your education: And last, and most important of all, you must make the best use of your education by continuing to learn every day of your life. You cannot rest on your laurels and hope to achieve success with just your degree, no matter how fancy it is. What with the rapid advances that are taking place today, information changes by the second, so unless you keep up, you’re bound to be left far behind. Learning is augmented when you keep at it for the rest of your life, and a solid college education is the firm foundation on which you can build your life and carve your career with new knowledge gained according to the changing times.
