Amazon announces 4th-Gen Echo with a custom ML chip

At its 2020 hardware event today, Amazon has announced a series of products like the Echo Show 10, Fire TV Stick and Stick Lite, like every year. However, unlike previous years, this time around, there was no public live stream for these announcements. Instead, it was an online-only affair. Moreover, in addition to hardware, the company also unveiled two services, Fire TV Experience and a cloud-gaming service, Luna. Talking about hardware, the company has introduced a bunch of new Echo products. What’s interesting about this new Echo lineup is that all these devices have gone through a complete redesign, and they are now spherical in shape. The one we are looking at in this article is the all-new 4th-Gen Echo. And here’s what it has to offer.

The Echo (4th-Gen) features a new spherical design in terms of visuals. More than the exterior, the internals is what the new Echo is all about. For starters, it has an AZ1 Neural Edge silicon module. The module leverages machine learning and speech recognition algorithms to process the audio of voice requests. This addition of a new module will allow for all the audio processing to take place on the device itself, which will, in turn, offer faster responses to requests.

The new Echo also promises to sound significantly better thanks to a 3.0-inch woofer, dual-firing tweeters, and Dolby processing that delivers stereo sound with clear highs, dynamic-mids, and deep bass. For the first time, Echo comes with a built-in smart home hub, with support for Zigbee, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and Amazon Sidewalk. The Sidewalk uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the 900 MHz spectrum, and other frequencies to simplify new device setup, extend the low-bandwidth working range of devices, and help devices stay online and up-to-date even if they are outside the range of home Wi-Fi.
