The Drone industry is being flooded with small drones that are getting increasingly capable. We have seen a fair share of pocket-sized follow me drone that would double up as a personal photographer. The Hover Passport Drone was one of the pocket-sized drones. Well, the compactness is always a bliss and add to that the regulations regarding the larger sized drones. This time around DJI has come up with a new $499 drone called Spark and it is nearly the size of a soda can.

The Dji Spark weighs in at 0.6 pounds and is apparently the thinnest and the lightest drone that DJI has ever made. What’s surprising is the price tag, every DJI product until not cost nearly a $1000 and with the Spark, DJI has bought the starting price point for half of what it used to be. Now since it’s a cheaper, smaller and lighter drone most of us might already judge the DJI Spark and presume that it has ditched some of the most important features, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

DJI Spark will come with intelligent flight controls including the ActiveTrack and TapFly. Also, one can use the gesture control to manoeuvre the drone in any direction and also perform stunts. The drone can be charged via the micro-USB port and each charge is rated to offer a flight time of 16 minutes. Needless to say, DJI will be bundling the Spark with a host of accessories including charging hub, propeller, guards, extra battery pack and a remote control, all for a price off course ($200.)

The camera on the Spark is a 12-Megapixel two-axis gimbal sensor capable of capturing up to 1080p. The drone also comes equipped with an obstacle sensor that lets it avoid obstacles on the flight. The top speed is a respectable 31 miles per hour. QuickShot is a mode that lets you capture cinematic shots without doing anything. The DJI Spark will be available in Alpine White, Sky Blue, Meadow Green, Lava Red, and Sunrise Yellow. Expected shipping date on June 15th and it can be preordered from this link.
