Homey PowerUp Charger Brings Back USB Ports for the New MacBooks

After Apple ditched the USB ports on the recent MacBook Pro accessory makers are scuttling on finding the right piece of device that can be back the old functionality. Only a handful of them has been successful but the startup called Homey seems to have come up with the perfect MacBook Charger.

The Homey Powerup comes with a simple proposition, it will charge your MacBook as usual via the USB-C port all the while adding three additional ports for charging and data transfer. One can simply plug in all of their gadgets and the PowerUp doubles up as a charging hub. The 60W AC power can promise to charge all your devices including tablets and smartphones at a rate that is 2X faster than the standard charger.

The best part is that Home PowerUp is nearly the same size as the standard MacBook charger and is also priced similarly. Also, the PowerUp helps you avoid the entangling wires and a stash of chargers during your travel. Since PowerUp comes with a retractable USB cable you can simply put it in your pocket. PowerUp comes baked in with technology that is designed to protect the devices from overcurrent, overvoltage and short-circuiting. Moreover, the specially designed copper cooling fins are expected to ward off the heat while charging thus preventing overheating.

What’s more, the USB hub also lets you transfer data at speeds of up to 5GB/s allowing users to sync up their files faster. The Homey Powerup is available in both White and Black color and it offers 3x USB-A 3.0 ports and 1xUSB-C 3.1. In a nutshell, the PowerUp seems to be one of the most obvious solutions to your charging woes, in fact, a charger like this should be readied for all the laptops. Yet another advantage the hub has is that it takes the power from the power outlet, unlike other hubs or chargers that tap into laptop’s battery power for charging other devices.

The Homey PowerUp is live on Indiegogo and the pledges start from $79 and the estimated date of shipping is July this year. The charger will support different voltages and will ship with the appropriate AC power cord for your region
