PGS is a Dual Boot Handheld Hybrid That can run Both Windows and Android Games

Dual boot devices have been around for a long time but the configuration in which its usually offered makes all the difference. The PGS (Portable Gaming System)is a dual screen portable handheld device that can be booted up on Android or Windows. The form factor of the device easily gives away the fact that the PGS is more of a handheld Console and so does the gaming controller like placing of the buttons. Well, console and smartphone hybrids have rarely taken off but the companies never stop making one.

This is what PGS lab has done they have taken an Android smartphone and laced it with Windows support thus eventually allowing users to play the PC Games. PGS, the company behind the GPD Win is touting that it will be the “world first portable game console designed for running almost all the PC games.” Well since the usual smartphones are already capable of running games laden with heavy graphics the claim is not something to be surprised about.

The company has already had a successful Kickstarter Campaign that helped them garner $300,000. However, the company later said that it would be will be withdrawing from the Kickstarter campaign and will be building the phone on their own. The company has also decided to further work on the GPD and will be offering it in two variants called the PGS Hardcore and the PGS Lite. Both the variants share the same Intel Atom X7 + MediaTek Helio X2X processor but differ when it comes to storage, connectivity options and battery.

The PGS devices are up for preorder and you can have one by paying $259 for the PGS Lite and $315 for the Hardcore. However all said and done I personally don’t see a future for such hybrids and moreover, PGS has not been delivering on its promise before. If you are interested in the PGS you can wait for the device to be released on Amazon and Gearbest. The market for such hybrids is still niche and moreover, I am pretty much sure that the Intel Atom powered PGS is not something one would equate to a hardcore gaming console. But again the PGS might throw open a new segment altogether and might attract buyers looking out for a portable console.
