Volkswagen has introduced the Atlas Cross Sport crossover, which is a shorter, lower and more stylish version of the regular version of the Atlas model (sold as Teramont in Russia).

In terms of design, the novelty is easy to distinguish by its more prominent bumpers, and the front one received large side air intakes decorated with dotted chrome accents.

Plus, the edging of the glasses and the exhaust pipes is made of chrome. The shortened Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport 2020 also received a more impetuous profile with a sloping roofline and heavily sloping C-pillars, and catchy chrome slots appeared on the front fenders of the car.

Note that the Germans have prepared eight versions for the new model at once: S, SE, SE w / Tech, SE w / Tech R-Line, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL Premium and SEL Premium R-Line. Cars with the R-Line package have the most unique features – they delight the eye with even more aggressive bumpers, additional decor made of piano lacquer and chrome, as well as 21-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the VW Atlas Cross Sport, attention is drawn to a new steering wheel, a different digital tidy and contrasting stitching on the seats and doors. They also expanded the equipment for the car, adding wireless charging for smartphones, while for an additional fee, customers can order ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel and rear seats, as well as a Fender Premium Audio system with 12 speakers.

Compared to the regular Volkswagen Atlas, the shortened version in the face of the new 2020 Cross Sport reaches 4,966 mm (- 71) in length and 1,720 mm (- 58 mm) in height. At the same time, the wheelbase (2,980) and width (1,979) of the car remained the same.

The reduction in dimensions did not in any way affect the amount of free space available to passengers, but the trunk capacity has become noticeably smaller. If the “hold” of a regular Atlas is capable of taking 1,572 liters of cargo, then the size of the compartment of the shortened version has been reduced to 1,141 (according to the American EPA method). If you fold the second row seats, you get 2,203 liters (- 538).

Under the hood for the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, two gasoline engines are offered. The base is considered a 2.0-liter turbo four TSI with a capacity of 238 hp, and as an alternative, the car can be ordered with a 3.6-liter aspirated V6 with 280 hp. Units are combined with an eight-speed automatic, and the drive can be either front or full 4Motion.

For the shortened Atlas, an upgraded Volkswagen Car-Net system has become available, which allows the owner to remotely learn technical information about the car and control some of its functions using a special smartphone application. For example, the latter allows you to check the fuel level and lock / unlock the doors.

Traffic Jam Assist and Dynamic Road Sign Display systems have been added to the list of electronic assistants. The first uses a front-mounted camera and radar to determine a safe distance to the vehicle in front, and the second displays speed limits on the display when passing certain road sections.

In addition, the adaptive cruise control “plug” mode was modified for the car: from now on, with short stops (no more than 3 seconds), the car continues to move on its own, and confirmation from the driver (pressing a button on the steering wheel or the gas pedal) is required only for longer pauses.

The cost of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport has not yet been advertised, the company is going to announce the prices for the SUV closer to the start of sales, which are scheduled for the spring of the twentieth, while the production of cars will be established at the American plant in Chattanooga in parallel with the usual Atlas. The emergence of such a model in Russia is under discussion.
