Found Abandoned Prototypes Of The “yo-mobile” Project

At one time, the Yo-mobile project was seen as extremely ambitious, while its development was mainly carried out by the specialists of the Belarusian Yarovit group, and the Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov acted as the main investor.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to launch the cars of the family into the series – the project was curtailed in 2014, and all the documentation was sold to the Russian institute NAMI for a symbolic one euro.

Note that by that time, several Prototypes of “yo-mobiles” had already been assembled. Most of them remained in Minsk, and in 2018 they even tried to sell these cars, but they failed to find a buyer.

Now these prototypes were left to their own devices. Journalist of the Belarusian portal Auto.TUT.by found nine such cars in the Drazhnya industrial zone in Minsk at once.

Among the “yo-mobiles” idle in the open air, there are two of the earliest examples – a white-blue cross-coupe and a silver van, which were built back in 2010 by employees of the Moscow ateliers Cardi and the AHRF.

These two prototypes are not full-fledged cars. In fact, these are just running models with the most simplified design, primitive suspension and a power unit from a snowmobile.

The cross-coupe captured in the photos is in a terrible state. There is no radiator grill, and from an uncovered hole you can see a rusty body beam.

In the cabin, things are also not in the best way: there are no seats, and the front row is for some reason separated from the rear by a plywood partition. Some kind of debris is scattered around the cabin, and a huge hole is gaping on the floor through which the asphalt is visible.

Five more experienced “yo-crossovers” were also found in Drazhna. They were released a little later and are already more or less full-fledged cars equipped with a 1.4-liter Fiat gasoline engine (75 hp) and two Electric Motors.

The power plant of these machines works according to a sequential scheme: the internal combustion engine rotates a 50 kilowatt generator, which feeds the electric motors located on the front and rear axles through a buffer battery of 7.5 farad supercapacitors.

In two thousand and thirteenth, journalists were even allowed to ride on these crossovers, but now they are hardly on the move. However, these cars look relatively good, although there are already damages on the parts of the body that are not covered with a tarpaulin.

In the fourteenth year, four experimental prototypes of an electric vehicle were also built under the name “ё-crossback EV”. One of them also rusts in the open air of the Minsk industrial zone (a bright red three-door in the photo). This car is exactly on the move: some time ago, its battery failed, which then had to be dismantled.

Note that all the cars are parked near the production workshop of the Keiji Impex engineering company, which is headed by Andrey Ginzburg, the former Yo-mobile general designer. When asked by a Belarusian journalist about the future of these cars, the top manager honestly said that he didn’t know what to do with them.
