In August 2014, at the Pebble Beach automotive elegance competition, Mclaren Automotive showed a track modification of the P1 superhybrid, which received the GTR prefix to the name.

Its final version was presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March along with the new McLaren 675LT. The track hypercar will be released in a small edition (approximately 45 units), and only owners of the road version of the P1 will be able to purchase it.

As expected, the top-end McLaren P1 GTR got a boost from 916 to 1,000 hp. a hybrid power plant (here the 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo develops 800 forces, and the electric motor gives an additional 200 “horses”), a more aggressive appearance with a front track widened by 80 mm and ground clearance reduced by 50 mm.

On the P1 GTR, the retractable wing was replaced with a static one (but with the DRS system) – its working surface is 100 mm higher than the standard P1 in the maximum raised state. Together with the aerodynamic flaps in the front bumper, this provides up to 660 kg of downforce at 240 km / h (+ 10% increase).

The track hypercar is powered by a wide range of 19-inch alloy wheels with a center mount, “shod” in racing slicks, and equipped with pneumatic jacks for quick wheel changes – the same ones installed on the previously presented McLaren 650S Sprint coupe. And for better cooling of systems and assemblies, the car body is dotted with many air intakes.

In addition, the designers managed to reduce the weight of the McLaren P1 GTR by 50 kg, compared to the original. This was achieved by replacing the side windows with polycarbonate analogs and installing a newly developed exhaust system made using Formula 1 technologies using titanium and a special nickel-chromium heat-resistant alloy.

The track car has a new carbon fiber steering wheel, a different instrument panel and a racing bucket seat for the driver. The passenger seat was dismantled, and a fire extinguisher was registered in its place, the glass roof gave way to a carbon one.

The McLaren P1 GTR is set to begin production in mid-2015, after the manufacturer has built all 375 road-going versions of the P1. It also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the legendary McLaren F1 GTR supercar (chassis number 06R), which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995. It is in his honor that the modern successor is painted.

The price of the new McLaren P1 GTR in the UK will be £ 1,980,000 (about $ 3.35 million), which is significantly more expensive than the “regular” version. But this cost will also include consultations with experts in the physical training of pilots of the world championship, work on one of the McLaren racing simulators, as well as participation in six international racing competitions.

It is possible that all McLaren P1 GTRs will be stored and serviced directly by the manufacturer – the work of the FXX program at Ferrari is similarly organized. And at the request of the client, his car will be delivered to any race track. At the beginning of July 2015, the manufacturer has already received 42 orders.
