The first complete electric skateboard from Enertion, who were previously featured as the head of the DIY electric skateboard movement, the Enertion Raptor Dual Motor is a beast to behold.

Made completely out of carbon fiber and touting a top speed of 28 mph with a range of 18.5 miles, this board aims to establish itself as the technical beast within the electric skateboarding market, blowing away the competition with its specifications.

After reviewing the common electric skateboards on the market, such as the Yuneec E-Go and the Boosted Boards(see our comparison between the two), Review Longboards decided to venture out to see what this new electric skateboard is all about.

See below for our extensive review of the board including component specifications, how it feels to ride, and comparison to other electric skateboards in the market today.

Technical Specifications

The Enertion Raptor is aimed at the consumers who care about the range and top speed of the board. These people are the ones who see electric skateboards not only as a fun addition to skateboarding but also as a viable means of transportation every day.

In this, the skateboard is perfectly engineered. The dual motor kit comes with 2 190kV motors providing torque that bests even the Boosted Dual+. These motors provide the top speed of 28 mph.

To power the board, Enertion decided to go with a 270Wh lithium ion battery with a high discharge rate. To give this number some perspective, the Boosted Dual+  has a battery which consists of only 99Wh.

Side note: Any lithium ion batteries higher than 99Wh are not allowed on airplanes.

The battery provides the extraordinary range of the board, an astonishing 18.5 miles. This is on par with the stated range of other electric skateboards such as the Evolve Bamboo.

Although, that being said, the only true way to get an accurate range  is to ride the board as the range can  vary on how the rider accelerates the board and the rider’s weight.

With the fast charger, this electric skateboard will charge fully in just under 1.6 hours. With a regular charger, the charging time increases to 2.5 hours.

The Board

The Enertion Raptor board is made almost entirely outside of carbon fiber to provide a sturdy deck. It is an interesting construction choice when looking at the board. While carbon fiber does provide a lightweight yet incredibly sturdy deck, I personally feel that it lacks the true skateboard feel.

This is a completely personal opinion however, and as you can see in the Evolve Carbon Series and the Marbel Board, other electric skateboard manufacturers besides Enertion disagree with me.

The deck is compression molded and actually is a little concave which helps center your feet on the board. The total length of the Raptor Deck is 38.7 inches long and it measures approximately 9.6” wide.

One nice thing about the deck is that all of the electronics are located in a specially formed apartment within the center of the board. Say goodbye to ugly external battery packs. This battery remains inside the board protecting it and all of the electronics from the environment.

To complete the deck, Enertion used all of its own parts for the trucks and wheels. For trucks, the deck comes standard with 50 degree enertion trucks(very similiar to the Caliber 50 Trucks) and for wheels it comes with 83mm 80A enertion power wheels.
The wheels especially are big enough to roll over any pebbles in the road which is a fact you’ll appreciate when you’re going 20 mph.

The Remote

Seeming modeled after a Wii Nunchuck(see picture to the left for the comparison), the remote is ergonomic and fits in the hand. It connects to the board over Bluetooth and is very simple to operate. To go forward, simply push up on the knob and to brake, pull back.

In the first Raptor’s produced, there was a slight problem with losing connection with the remote due to carbon fiber being placed around the receiver. This problem was quickly fixed by replacing the top of the compartment with fiberglass allowing a consistent connection.

The remote is powered by a typical usb cable giving you a variety of options for charging. You can charge the remote off a computer or off a cell phone charger. There is a red light on the charger which will switch to green once it has reached full charge.

Riding the Enertion Raptor

As I’ve said before and the specs certainly prove it, the Enertion raptor is a beast of a board. Taking my first steps on the board, I was nervous with that much power underneath my feet.

Before getting on the board, I watched the preparation video about how to ride the Enertion Raptor, so I was prepared for the initial acceleration.

I stepped onto the board, got down low, and kept my weight forward as I slowly started accelerating.

Quick fact: The Enertion Rapter can accelerate to 28 mph in 3 seconds. This is faster than any other electric skateboard on the market today.

While I did not try to test the validity of this fact, I did cruise around at 20 mph and found the raptor very sturdy throughout all of my maneuvers. One of the advantages of the stiff deck was that speed wobbles were nowhere to be found.

After a couple of test runs with the acceleration, I tested out the braking. Even while leaning back and bracing my front leg, I felt the power of the brakes quickly bring this board to a stop. Without a doubt, if you throw the braking on too hard and too fast, you’ll get thrown off of the board.

Additional Features

This is a small feature but I personally liked it a lot when I got a look at the board. It provides a very simple measure of how much voltage your batteries have left as you ride the board. While other electric skateboards simply incorporate this into apps or not at all, I liked the physical display on the board.

Weatherproof

Seeing as the electronics are sealed underneath a carbon fiber lid, in the words of the board maker “there are no issues dealing with wet conditions such as navigating through puddles and riding through light rain.”

For more and more riders, weatherproofing is proofing to be a greater concern and on this board, it’s not a problem.

Great customer service

Although Enertion Boards is a small company, it has excellent customer service, perhaps one of the top contenders that I have dealt with personally. I had absolutely no problems with the board so my experience with customer service was rather short.

However, it takes no time at all to find the owner of Enertion Boards out on forums talking to customers about the problems and minor annoyances of the board and personally resolving customer complaints.

While doing research for this article, I personally found just over 3 instances where somebody complained about some aspect of Enertion Boards, and the owner himself showed up and offered numerous solutions to the customer complaint. It’s very impressive and shows you that the company really cares about its products.

Enertion Raptor: Final Notes

For riders who simply want  one of the top electric skateboards on the market in terms of looks and functionality, the Enertion Raptor is your board. When I was looking over the specifications of this and other boards, car analogies kept coming through my mind.

The Enertion Raptor is the Tesla Roadster compared to Boosted Board or Evolve’s BMWs. Yeah both cars are nice but the Roadster is simply in another league of its own.

That being said, each electric skateboad has it’s own unique uses. The Enertion Raptor is a powerhouse and aimed at users who want that. Other boards such as the Yuneec E-Go, are for those commuters who simply like longboarding and hate pushing up hills.

With the Enertion Raptor, you get what you pay for though and you’ll pay handsomely for this board. Check below for the price and additional photos and reviews of the board.
