Best Longboards for Girls

Introduction

While longboarding tends to seem male dominated, there are many girl riders tearing up the streets and bringing fresh air into the longboarding scene.

However, it can be hard for a girl just starting to longboard to choose the correct longboard to start out with. The very first longboards are typically aimed at beginners and your experience with your first longboard can easily determine if you want to continue or not.

After taking to a number of first time female skaters, we at Review Longboards decided to write this guide to help girl beginner longboarders.

Before we get into details, let’s answer the main question: do girls need to specifically buy a longboard “made for girls”? And the answer is of course not! There’s no such thing as a longboard made specifically for girls!  And any girl can be just as good as or better than any guy skater.

Determining Your Riding Style

The main  factor that is essential to choosing the best longboard for any beginner, not just girls, is determining your riding style. We say it over and over again in our articles but you have to simply ask yourself what you want to do with the board.

Do you want to cruise around campus? Our Pick: the Quest Super Cruiser.

Do you want to go down steep hills and pick up some speed? Our Pick: Sector 9 Fractal

Are you more interested in learning how to slide and do tricks? Our Pick: Loaded Dervish

Can’t Choose and Want an all-around board? Our Pick: Sector 9 Shoots

Choosing the Best Longboard for Girls

We did however take into account some factors to narrow down the list when choosing our best longboards for girls. Typically girls are smaller than guys which means they need a shorter longboard deck. With a deck that is too long, we have found that the longboard becomes harder to control and it is harder to turn.

Depending on your riding style, beginner girl longboarders might want to look into light boards typically weighing less than 15 lbs. Shifting your weight to make sharp turns can be harder on heavy boards because you have to essentially stomp the sides in order to get the board to budge.

The Best Longboards for Girls

Quest Super Cruiser

The perfect cruiser and one of the cheapest longboards available, the Quest Super Cruiser is perfect for any girl looking to get into longboarding. With its short deck length, any girl will be able to easily maneuver and take this board around the tightest corners.

Made out of 5 ply bamboo, the Shoots longboard is flexible enough for to allow riders to easily carve around corners and simultaneously sturdy enough to pick up some serious speed on downhills.

While this board is more expensive, it comes with high quality components such as Gullwing Sidewinder trucks which are guaranteed to allow you to turn harder and faster than similar boards.

Known for it’s ability to “dance” down hills, the Loaded Dervish Sama is one of the best longboards to put a beginner rider on. If I had the chance to go back and choose my first longboard again, I would definitely choose this board.

While expensive, the Loaded Dervish Sama will almost certaintly last you for more than 2 years and possibly many more. I purchased one about 3 years ago, and with the exception of changing the bearings, it is still running perfectly.

This beginner longboard features a deck made out of maple which gives the board a stable base and special freeride trucks that allow this board to easily maneuver at the slightest shift of the riders weight.

While it is a little long depending on how tall you are, the sheer responsiveness of the board more than makes up for it. The Arbor Axis Koa is perfect for riders looking for a board that carves with a small touch.

One of the most popular boards since Sector 9 got started, the Sector 9 Fractal has the perfect size and characteristics to put it on this list of the best longboards for girls.

The drop through trucks allow this longboard to remain stable even at high speeds while the Gullwing sidewinder II trucks give the board the flexibility to make unbelievable turns.

I would definitely recommend this board specifically to beginners as the low price point, amazing components, and physical design make this board a steal for your first longboard.

The biggest and most well known organization for girls interested in longboarding is the Longboard Girls Crew which is an international organization dedicated to simply getting more girls longboarding.

They made their start by creating longboarding videos that showed girls that they were just as capable as guys when it comes to longboarding and the movement grew from there. Now they are at the head of a thriving community of girls who longboard and offer a lot of inspiration to beginner longboarders.
