MARUCOS MALAYSIA FISHING TOUR – PART I

MARUCOS MALAYSIA FISHING TOUR 2018

Being a Malaysian, it has always been very fascinating to welcome a lady angler to come and experience fishing in Malaysia. I still remember a target I set 5-6 years ago when I started Fishyology. I’ve gain a good margin of trust among Fishyology readers if single lady angler would embark a fishing journey with us. It takes courage to travel alone and Marucos certainly made the right choice to experience Malaysia fishing scene and its wondrous culture. The planning started back in FEB 2018 and the date is set from 2nd May until 4th May 2018.

Chapter 1 – Kg Beng, Mini Amazon

Marucos main target for this fishing tour would be Giant Snakehead and Peacock Bass. Thus, her first 2 days will start in Kg Beng, Mini Amazon, Perak and will end in Royal Belum State Park. Fishing has been good in Kg Beng and slightly tough in Royal Belum. Hopefully there will be enough time to secure all target species within 4 days. One thing for sure, we all look forward to see her in action.

First stop, Kg Beng, Perak. On the hunt for Peacock Bass!

Marucos journey in Kg Beng kick start pretty well with Giant Snakehead and Peacock Bass on the morning of the first day. Taking off all the pressure and focus 100% on enjoying the fishing trip. Although the ultimate objective was to secure the target species, having while doing it is often forgotten by some anglers. I think Marucos is filled with this positive energy and mindset that makes her enjoy her fishing trip. Some people think about wanting to catch World Record size fish, testing their expensive gears and even setting unrealistic number of target catch. We’ve been around a lot of anglers who came here and those who is humble in their approach often get the best result.

Target 01 - Peacock Bass! Done!
Giant Snakehead! The largest of the Snakehead family with a maximum size up to 20kg!

Finish high on the first day is really important to keep you in positive mind. The positive energy helps you increase your game for the next few days. The starting point in Kg Beng was a good choice as Marucos can experience the traditional culture of Malaysian people. I knew they were in good hand in Kg Beng. The ambiance is beautiful and the food is great too. I did ask her personally on her preference between Beng and Belum. Marucos said it was Kg Beng beauty that captures her eyes. The serene hill overlooking the traditional local Malay Kampung that makes it special. The final tally for Peacock Bass for day 1 is 4 and maximum size of 40cm. Too bad there aren’t any size bigger than 40cm, but still it was a great exprience. We head back to Abg Lan’s house and had dinner later that night. Surely all will sleep well today and hoping tomorrow will be a great day.

Thank you! Great start to our first day in Kg Beng.
Heading out for another session in the evening
Good Morning and ready for Day 2!

Final day in Kg Beng. Last chance to find a bigger specimen for Peacock Bass. The usual morning start is to had breakfast before heading out to go fishing. The approach will be the same for today, targeting Peacock Bass early in the morning and evening. However we had an unexpected catch in day 2. A juvenile Hampala Barb or Jungle Perch hammers Marucos lure. It was a bit strange the fish actually stays deep in the swamp area. Usually it would lurk at the pathway from the main Perak River to the Kg Beng swamp. Super Lucky and fun size too. During the morning session was a bit quite. We were not getting any more bite from Peacock Bass and it will be a good time to come in for lunch and get ready for the last session.

Structures are great ambush spot for Peacock Bass or even Giant Snakehead!
The unexpected catch! It seems all the fish are lining up to get in touch with Marucos lol

Straight away after lunch we head back to the water, hoping to score in the final session in Kg Beng. Yet again, luck was on Marucos side as she scored another Giant Snakehead. A young adult snakehead proves to be a good fighter and she does struggles a little bit at first before reeling the fish home. Pure satisfaction! It was beauty and finally we can wrap things up in Kg Beng. Too bad, Peacock Bass were a bit shy during the second day but we can be satisfied with today’s result.

Mission accomplish in Kg Beng with Peacock Bass, Giant Snakehead and Sebarau are all on the scoreboard!

Overall it was a great first two days experience for Marucos. She what she came for and now to continue her journey to Royal Belum. It will be another hour drive from Kg Beng and surely we will sleep well tonight. Before we end our first part, a big shout out to Eddie who has done a brillant job so far. Abg Lan and Apai who also play a great role in ensuring this trip is a success. The battle continues on and surely the real battle with the Giant Snakehead begins!

To be continued……

Thank you Kg Beng! See you again! Next stop Royal Belum!
