Jordan Spieth Says PGA Tour And PIF Negotiations Are In A Better Place Than Most Believe

Jordan Spieth does not want you to believe everything that you hear about the PGA TOUR’s negotiations with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Prior to some really good golf and a huge off-the-course incident at last week’s PGA Championship, the dominant storyline leading up to the year’s second major was the state of men’s professional golf – specifically the negotiations between PGA Tour Enterprises and Saudi PIF as the sides work on finalizing the framework agreement that was announced close to a year ago.

With news of Jimmy Dunne’s resignation from the PGA Tour policy board and talk of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy having differing views on the future of the game, many wondered whether the deal would ever be completed.

This week at Colonial, however, Jordan Spieth is offering a more optimistic view from his stance inside the ropes.

Spieth said:

“I think the narrative that things are in a bad place and are moving slowly, and some of the things that are asked of me or said are untrue. I think that—I know that—they’re false, actually.”

Like Woods when speaking to the media last week, Spieth was light on details but did express optimism.

He added:

“Things are actually moving positively from both sides. I think, ultimately, we’ll end up in a place where professional golf is maybe the best that it’s ever been. I think both sides believe that. I think that’s starting to resonate amongst players as they’re able to get more and more information on the matter, and it will continue to get more and more information over the coming months.”

The last part of that quote doesn’t indicate that a deal will be done anytime soon, but Spieth is banking on the end game being a result that will be favorable for all parties involved.
