PGA TOUR Confirms Shock Move by Viktor Hovland Following PGA Championship

The PGA TOUR confirmed a shock move by Viktor Hovland following the PGA Championship, where the Norwegian finished in third place.

Hovland will not play in this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Golf Course, the TOUR confirmed earlier this week. Wesley Bryan will take his spot:

It is not uncommon for players to take a few weeks of time off after a Major Championship, especially if their performance was strong. PGA Champion Xander Schauffele is not in the field this week, nor is Hovland, Justin Thomas, or Shane Lowry.

However, a few top finishers, including Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler, and Justin Rose will play in this week’s event. Hovland is coming off of his best performance of a year where has has struggled, posting only one Top 20 prior to the PGA Championship in 7 total starts.

Hovland flew to Las Vegas the week before the PGA Championship to reunite with past swing coach Joey Mayo, who helped him capture the FedEx Cup last year, culminating in an $18 million bonus.

It led to a vintage Hovland performance, establishing a swing and mechanics that saw him perform at a level many fans recognized from the entire 2023 season. However, a week off is just what might be needed as Hovland will attempt to capture his first Major Championship at Pinehurst No. 2 at this year’s U.S. Open.
