Scottie Scheffler’s Arraignment Delayed, Charges Not Expected To Be Dropped

Scottie Scheffler’s arraignment has been delayed until June 3rd, the same week he will take on the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

An arraignment is a brief court appearance before a judge where defendants find out what charges they will be confronting and what rights they have. Usually, the next court dates are also set.

Scheffler was arrested on Friday morning while heading to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, for his morning tee time at the PGA Championship.

Charged with four different crimes, one of them a felony, the Louisville Metro Police Department claims Scheffler dragged an officer with his car while ignoring traffic signals after a tragic incident where a shuttle bus hit a worker at the tournament, killing him.

Scheffler called the incident “a big misunderstanding” after his Friday afternoon round, where he shot a 66. He would finish the week in eighth place.

Rumors that Scheffler’s charges were going to be dropped by the LMPD were denied by Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines (via SB Nation):

“I’ve been defending criminal cases for 30 years and have learned to never be surprised. Whoever reported [the charges] were going to be dismissed was not accurate.”

Currently ranked as the number-one golfer in the world, Scheffler’s case was not caught on a police body camera, which makes the charges more difficult to prove. However, this fact does not mean the charges will be thrown out, and Scheffler, as of now, will return to Louisville in June to deal with his case.
