PING is planning to launch a Viktor Hovland Pld DS72 Putter that will be made precisely to the 2023 FedEx Cup Champion’s specifications…but there’s a huge catch — only 100 will be made.
Hovland will be celebrated after his historic season on the PGA Tour this past year, which included three wins, nine Top 10s, and a FedEx Cup Championship. After his incredible 28 on the back nine at Olympia Fields on Sunday at the BMW Championship, the 26-year-old Norweigian is set to represent Team Europe for the second straight Ryder Cup.
Only 100 of these PLD DS72 Putters, which will feature the word “Hovi” inscribed on the bottom of the head, will be made. Fully milled at PING Headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, they will be 36 inches in length, exactly how long Hovland plays his putter.
They will also cost $990, and will be available at 2 PM ET on October 10.
These will go fast: @PingTour is slated to release 100 custom-built PLD DS72 putters that match Viktor Hovland’s specs. Fully milled at Ping HQ. Available 10/10 at 2 pm ET. pic.twitter.com/qKCkjNioN0

PING writes on its website:
“To honor his tremendous season, we’re offering 100 PLD Limited DS72 putters ($990) precision milled at PING’s Phoenix, Arizona headquarters by the company’s master machinists. Each putter is serialized and built to the exact shape, specs and weight of Viktor’s putter, right down to the red Winn 15” “Long Pistol” grip. We’re even engraving “Hovi” on the sole to add to its intrigue and appeal. You can collect it or play it (which we highly recommend if you want to make more putts). A Hovi-inspired custom putter cover was designed exclusively for this limited offering. It’s emblazoned with a Viking graphic as a nod to Viktor’s Norwegian heritage and several other icons, each symbolic of his life and interests. There are 17 total, so you can enjoy identifying them and connecting them to Viktor and his world.”
PING is one of the richest names in golf equipment, especially when it comes to the flatstick. Started by Karsten Solheim in 1959, who was an engineer for General Electric, his beginnings started similar to that of Scotty Cameron by developing his own in-house putter.
Traditionally, putter heads were attached at the heel to the shaft. Solheim attached it to the center of the head, which was an idea he got from applying scientific principles to the clubhead design.
His initial prototype made a “PING” sound when hitting a golf ball. Thus the PING brand was born.
PING has partnerships with several notable golfers, including Hovland, Sahith Theegala, Bubba Watson, Tony Finau, Louis Oosthuizen, and Lee Westwood.
