EQUIPMENT: PXG Debuts All-New 0317 T Irons

The player’s-distance iron category has been a very fast-growing segment in the marketplace. While golfers all want that better player’s design, featuring less offset, narrower soles, and a more compact profile, we can all benefit from a little extra ball speed.

And PXG’s all-new 0317 T irons may be the best offering to date.

The 0317 lineup is PXG’s “advanced player’s irons” category and features its premium 0317 ST and CB irons that are developed with three-times forged 8620 carbon steel and precision-milled faces and back sections. The problem is, however, that while everyone wants to game these, not everyone has the skill or ability to play them well.

The 0317 T, fortunately, looks to bridge the game by adding some extra horsepower under the hood by being the first 0317 model to feature a hollow-body construction that is filled with PXG’s proprietary S COR material that increases stability and limits face movement during impact which produces higher spin rate performance.

What this means is that despite being hollow-bodied, the 0317 T—which also features the same three-times forged 8620 carbon steel and is nearly indistinguishable from the 0317 CB—allows you to finally “have your cake and eat it too.”

PXG is claiming that the T’s design boosts forgiveness (measured as MOI) by 11% over the CB and 14% over the ST blade. Combine that with extra ball speed from the super-thin maraging steel face and injected hollow core, and the T might be the most friendly, forgiving, better players iron on the market.

And for those who think like something visually extra special, the 0317 T is also available with PXG’s Xtreme Dark finish (pictured above on the 0317 STs), made possible with their Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) coating. While many iron manufacturers add a black coat, PXG’s DLC is a three-layer process that provides enhanced wear resistance without affecting performance.

Having just gone through a PXG fitting, I can assure you that their customization and shaft options are nearly limitless. Indeed, during a fitting, you have the ability to adjust the Center-of-Gravity (CG) weight on the rear of the clubhead to dial in swing weight and have numerous shaft options from brands like KBS, Nippon, Project X, and True Temper. But what may be more important is that at $170 per club, the 0317 T rivals—if not undercut—the cost of the competition’s offerings.

The PXG 0317 Ts are available right now and should be on the shortlist for anyone looking at new clubs. Make sure to find your regional PXG location to schedule a fitting here.
