After all the confusion, deliberation, and head-scratching speculation regarding the Ryder Cup picks, some information is beginning to fall through the cracks, shedding light on the players that will tee it up in Rome.
No Laying Up tweeted the information out earlier today, citing The Guardian – which reported that Justin Thomas has been offered a captain’s pick alongside Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, and Rickie Fowler.
#NEW: U.S Team Captain Zach Johnson is set to select Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler as part of his captains picks tomorrow, per The Guardian’s @mrewanmurray. Koepka, Spieth and Morikawa are also getting a pick with ongoing discussions for the final selection. pic.twitter.com/VN2YMnTzgm

This is not surprising to many, if you take two years’ worth of data into the decision, all the above names should be there, with perhaps a question mark over Rickie.
The final spot is allegedly still up for grabs, with speculation that it will be Sam Burns.
Cameron Young was a pretty good bet for the final captain’s pick, especially after showcasing his ability to the world on the big stage at St. Andrews last summer.
However, he has not been too close to the top of a leaderboard for some time.
If the information is true, there is no fairytale pick for Lucas Glover, on-form Keegan Bradley, Tony Finau, or anyone else that could be considered less of a name than the JT’s and Spieths of this world. Team USA relying on their household names, albeit without DJ, Reed, Bryson, and all the other LIV guys – whereas Team Europe will be re-writing the playbook while their team could contain a handful of rookies.
