Mizuno’s ST230 Series: ‘The Missing Piece’ to Your Golf Game?

Mizuno’s ST230 Series is being keyed as “The Missing Piece” to everyone’s golf game. But what about this product launch makes it so much different than past releases?

Mizuno has been developing the ST230 for four years, refining groundbreaking technology with classic designs to improve stability, sound, spin, and ball speed for optimum performance, helping golfers of all levels shave strokes off their scores.

One of the most heavily-mentioned developments in the new series by Mizuno is the introduction of the Cortech Chamber, which houses a stainless steel weight with elastomeric TPU. This helps utilize clubface stress at impact as an “additional energy source,” the company said. Simultaneously, the weight is located closer to the club face to reduce spin, thus increasing distance and launch to help provide groundbreaking power and solid contact.

After several years of R&D, Mizuno said player testing concluded with the idea that extra weight closer to the face will result in a faster ball speed and lower spin rate.

The company said:

“We’ve been steadily working towards the CORTECH Chamber, which is incredibly effective at that job.”

An updated club face also helps with durability, flexibility, and overall performance. Mizuno went with an SAT 2041 Forged Beta Titanium face for the ST-Z 230 and ST-X 230 drivers.

The differences between the two driver models are similar to what Titleist released with its new lineup of hybrids: one is more geared toward workability and shot shaping for the more advanced golfer, while the other is aimed toward forgiveness, stability, and low spin.

ST-X 230 Driver

  • CORTECH Chamber with equipped stainless steel weight
  • Forged SAT 2041 Beta Ti Face: More resilient than commonly used 6-4 Ti, with more complex multi-thickness design – made possible by Mizuno’s CORTECH Chamber.
  • Unified Sole Composite, which makes the carbon sole plate a single piece for overall stability
  • Strategically placed weight located near shaft axis for more workability and draw-biased outcomes.
  • 4 degrees of adjustability, thanks to the “Quick Switch” hosel

ST-Z 230 Driver

  • CORTECH Chamber with equipped stainless steel weight
  • Forged SAT 2041 Beta Ti Face: More resilient than commonly used 6-4 Ti, with more complex multi-thickness design – made possible by Mizuno’s CORTECH Chamber.
  • Unified Sole Composite, which makes the carbon sole plate a single piece for overall stability
  • Straight flight bias made possible through an equal and mass spread of weight to encourage stable ball flights.
  • The profile is pushed lower to the ground for low / mid-spin performance
  • 4 degrees of adjustability, thanks to the “Quick Switch” hosel

ST-Z 230 Fairway Wood and Hybrid

Mizuno is packing relatively the same concepts in the ST-Z 230 Fairway Woods and Hybrids as it is with its driver.

The CORTECH Chamber is present in both of these clubs, but the forgiveness is provided by a Carbon Composite Crown for low center of gravity and stability on impacts not located in the center of the clubface. Additionally, more Front-to-Back weighting helps with consistent launch.

Pricing and Launch

Mizuno’s new lineup won’t be available until February, but prices are already available and are as follows:

ST-Z 230 Driver $499.95

ST-X 230 Driver: $499.95

ST-Z 230 PLTNM Driver: $549.95

ST-Z 230 Fairway Woods: $299.95
