ICYMI: Mark Hubbard’s ‘Embarrassing’ Hole-in-One From the Rocket Mortgage Classic

While last weekend’s Pga Tour event in Detroit belonged to Tony Finau, Mark Hubbard had a shot that he’ll never forget.

Teeing off on the par-3, 211-yard 11th hole during the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Hubbard appeared utterly disgusted with his shot. After making contact, he let the club go on the follow-through, exclaiming, “That’s embarrassing.”

Of course, as you can tell from the headline, things didn’t end up too badly.

The ball ended up drawing toward the hole, landing short of the hole, rolled toward the pin, swirled around the cup, and dropped in for the ninth hole-in-one of his golfing career.

You can hear playing partner Wyndham Clark say, “Dude, that better not go in,” on the video.

Hubbard said after the round:

“I mean, honestly, it was pretty embarrassing…Didn’t quite know where the ball was going today. Taking a week off and whatever I just didn’t feel as spot on and I think I let go of the club on about three of the last four shots as well and they all ended up OK. I just felt really stuck and I thought it was going to be way right of the green.”

After finishing third and fourth at the Barbasol Championship and Barracuda Championship, respectively, Hubbard followed up his 68 on Thursday with a 74 in the second round and missed the cut. He’s 86th in FedEx Cup points going into the regular-season finale this week at the Wyndham Championship.
