PGA Tour and ESPN+ Join Forces Starting January, 2022

Huge news for Pga Tour fans as PGA Tour Live will now be joining up with ESPN to bring their coverage exclusively to ESPN+.

The nine year deal is set to begin in January, starting with the Sentury Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open in Hawaii, and carry on through 2030. Coverage will go from the Sentury Tournament of Champions until the FedEx Cup Playoffs in August.

According to the ESPN Press Release, “ESPN+ will be the exclusive, direct-to-consumer home of PGA TOUR LIVE as part of the PGA TOUR’s new, nine-year domestic rights agreement announced Monday. PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will launch in 2022, delivering to golf fans more than 4,000 hours of live coverage from 36 tournaments a year, including a full four days of coverage at 28 events with four simultaneous live feeds each day.

PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will also feature on-demand replays of PGA TOUR events, original golf programs, edited speed round recaps and more.”

Out of those 4,000+ hours, over 3,200 of those hours will be new live streaming hours that fans, not at the events in years prior, were not able to see before. With 3,200 new streaming hours and 28 events with four simultaneous live feeds each day there is no doubt that this will help grow the game and increase people’s ability to watch tournaments.

The 28 events with four simultaneous live feeds will start at the American Express in January including:

  1. A main feed with primary tournament coverage similar to when watching a tournament broadcast on T.V.
  2. Featured group coverage following three different groups, which used to be the only coverage on PGA Tour Live.
  3. The marquee group, which will show every shot from from group.
  4. Most intriguing, featured holes. This will use a mix of four par-3’s and holes that are decided to be pivotal.

You’d have to imagine that the 6th hole at Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational will have to be added to the featured holes that week just to see which line and crazy antics Bryson DeChambeau comes up with this year

ESPN+ is $6.99 per month whereas PGA Tour Live used to be $9.99 per month. For $3.00 less per month subscribers are getting 3,200+ more streaming hours, more streaming options for the PGA Tour, and streaming for all other sports ESPN+ has under their umbrella.

It seems like a no-brainer decision to me to subscribe, what do you think?
