Earlier this morning the PGA TOUR officially announced the schedule for the remainder of the 2020-21 golf season for the PGA TOUR, Korn Ferry Tour, and Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada.

Discussing the proposed relaunch, PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan stated:

The health and safety of all associated with the PGA TOUR and our global community continues to be our No. 1 priority, and our hope is to play a role – responsibly – in the world’s return to enjoying the things we love. Today’s announcement is another positive step for our fans and players as we look toward the future, but as we’ve stressed on several occasions, we will resume competition only when – working closely with our tournaments, partners and communities – it is considered safe to do so under the guidance of the leading public health authorities.

The revised 2019-20 PGA TOUR Season is as follows:

  • PGA TOUR First Event: June 8th to 14th, Charles Schwab Challenge
  • June 15th to 21st, RBC Heritage
  • June 22nd to 28th, Travelers Championship
  • July 2nd to 5th, Rocket Mortgage Classic
  • July 6th to 12th, John Deere Classic
  • July 13th to 19th, The Memorial Tournament Presented by Nationwide
  • July 20th to 26th, 3M Open
  • July 27th to August 2nd, World Golf Championship, FedEx St. Jude Invitational
  • July 27th to August 2nd, Barracuda Championship
  • August 3rd to 9th, PGA Championship
  • August 10th to 16th, Wyndham Championship
  • August 17th to 23rd, The Northern Trust
  • August 24th to 30th, BMW Championship
  • PGA TOUR Final Event: August 31st to September 7th, TOUR Championship

The proposed 2020-21 PGA TOUR Season Schedule is as follows:

  • September 7th to 13th, Safeway Open
  • September 14th to 20th, U.S. Open
  • September 21st to 27th, Ryder Cup
  • September 21st to 27th, Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship
  • September 28th to October 4th, Sanderson Farms Championship
  • October 5th to 11th, Shriners Hospitals for Children Open
  • October 12th to 18th, The CJ Cup at Nine Bridges
  • October 19th to 25th, ZOZO Championship
  • October 26th to November 1st, World Golf Championship HSBC Champions
  • October 26th to November 1st, Bermuda Championship
  • November 2nd to 8th, Houston Open
  • November 9th to 15th, The Masters Tournament
  • November 16th to 22nd, The RSM Classic
  • November 30th to December 6th, Mayakoba Golf Classic
  • November 30th to December 6th, Hero World Challenge
  • December 7th to 13th, QBE Shootout
  • December 14th to 20th, PNC Father-Son Challenge

Sadly, as you may notice, some events went to the chopping block, including The Open Championship, the RBC Canadian Open, and The Barbasol Championship, among others.

Further interesting is that 3 events—the Charles Schwab Challenge (120 players), RBC Heritage (132) and the Memorial Tournament (120)—will all benefit from expanded fields (144 players) to provide PGA TOUR members additional opportunities to compete.

With respect to the Korn Ferry Tour, competitive play will resume play in Ponte Vedra Beach (FL) the week of June 8th and 14th at TPC Sawgrass (Dye’s Valley Course). Meanwhile, the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada has not officially determined a return date, but an announcement is expected in the near future.

That said, both the PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour have confirmed that the proposed events will NOT be open to the general public.

It goes without saying that both the schedule and fan attendance policies will actively be monitored and updated, in accord with applicable state and local rules and regulations, as things progress and the COVID-19 pandemic continues to play out.

REGARDLESS, this is HUGE that the PGA TOUR (and hopefully other professional sports, such as the MLB) are making a conscious effort to resume activities and help the rest of us have some sense of normalcy with professional sports holding events again (despite how much I enjoyed watching the 2019 Masters, it’s time for some live competition).

Hopefully everything will stay on the newly-proposed schedule, and all parties involved—players, caddies, event support staff, etc.—will all stay safe so the PGA TOUR, Korn Ferry Tour, and Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada can all maintain activities through this difficult time.
