Fantasy Golf Picks, Odds, and Predictions – A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier

Fantasy Golf Picks, Odds, and Predictions for A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier

A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Fantasy Preview

After what felt like a torturous two-week lay-off, the PGA TOUR is back as the 2019/20 season begins in earnest.

The wraparound schedule features all of the classic hallmarks of this time of year, with stop-offs at the Sanderson Farms Championship, Shriners and Safeway Open backed by the four-event Asian Swing, which this time around will feature new tournaments in Japan and Bermuda.

The streamlined PGA TOUR itinerary has also seen two higher profile events, the Houston Open and this week’s A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier, bumped into this Fall slot in the calendar.

A trip to The Old White TPC in West Sulphur Springs, West Virginia is no bad way to kick off the new campaign, and a mixture of old heads and the new 50 players to qualify from the Korn Ferry Tour’s end-of-season countdown – young guns and grizzled veterans alike – will take this opportunity to earn some early FedEx Cup points.

Because, after all, all roads lead to East Lake for the TOUR Championship in August 2020!

Last Season’s Fantasy Results

Last season our squad picked seven players every week for 41 straight weeks.  Over that time, we picked 5 winners (one major), 5 runner-up winners, and had a 75.96% made-cut percentage.

Over the 41 weeks, we averaged a total tournament weekly winnings of $917,000 per week.  We owe a lot of that success to the GPFP Tools and Key Stats that help you narrow your search within certain salary parameters.

Both of these tools are available to all Golficity Premium Members so be sure to check them out!

The A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Field

With many of the world’s leading stars overseas as the European Tour enters its money-spinning final run of events, and others simply hibernating after a tough 2019, there is a rather sparse feel to the field this week.

Indeed, if we reveal that the top four names with the sportsbooks are Bryson DeChambeau, Bubba Watson, Viktor Hovland and Jason Kokrak, you get a flavor of what to expect in West Virginia.

Defending champion Kevin Na also tees it up, and he will be joined by a rung of would-be winners in the likes of Sungjae Im, Joaquin Niemann, Byeong Hun An and Cameron Smith.

There are plenty of Korn Ferry graduates to keep an eye out for, with one of the biggest stars in the making – Scottie Scheffler – considered a live contender here. The Korn Ferry regular points season leader, Zhang Xinjun, is also one to follow.

This Week’s Course Preview

A golf course that has yielded four winners in the shape of Kevin Na, Xander Schauffele, Danny Lee and Angel Cabrera in its last four hostings does not give a huge amount away in terms of what the layout has to offer!

This jewel in WV’s crown has one unique feature: it sits at an altitude of roughly 2000′ above sea level, and that helps the ball to fly even greater distances than normal.

And with reasonably wide fairways and charitable rough, plenty will be letting rip with the big stick this week.

That said, shorter hitters cannot be discounted either due to the altitude and the fact that a number of fairways feature dense tree lines, so there is still a premium on finding the short grass.

As a Par 70 measuring 7,287 yards, there are just two Par 5s on the real estate, and that clearly lends itself to the importance of Par 4 scoring here given that Na won in -19 last year.

Severe flooding really damaged this layout and caused the 2016 renewal to be cancelled, and the devastation required numerous changes to be made to the shaping of the course.

But these did not seem to toughen the test, and so the players can enjoy a relaxing dusting-off of the cobwebs this week in the warm West Virginian temperatures.

Weather Forecast for White Sulphur Springs, WV

Did we say those ‘warm’ West Virginian temperatures?

Yes, the thermometer will tickle a handsome 88°F this week, but there’s another problem for the players to deal with.

Rain is forecast from Friday through Sunday, and the predictions suggest this could be some pretty heavy stuff with ‘scattered thunderstorms’ expected throughout.

As is to be some crumb of comfort, the wind will be quite low with speeds of between 4-7 mph registered.

Last Year’s Results from A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier

Heading into the final round of the Greenbrier last July, there was a rather strange look to the leaderboard.

Kelly Kraft and Harold Varner III, not exactly two names that scream out prolific PGA TOUR winner, were locked at -14 with the defending champion Xander Schauffele hot on their heels at -13.

Surely it would be the X that got the win?

Well, no actually. In the end it was Kevin Na, riding an almost seven-year trophy doubt on the PGA TOUR, that confounded expectations with a final round of 64 to take the spoils and end a head-scratching run without a title.

Na was unsurprisingly emotional afterwards, and it just goes to show just how much winning means to these players whether young or old – something the contenders on Sunday will have to deal with.

Where to Play Fantasy Golf for A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier this Week

And so we go again! A new season, new opportunities, and an early chance here to boost our bankroll in an event which looks to be wide-open and there for the taking.

  • PGA $300k Best Ball: We can get started with this $8 entry contest, with the winner trousering $100k and the top 20% of players bagging an ROI of 50% at the very least.
  • PGA $25k Scramble: A weak field means more head-scratching for those who don’t do their research….take advantage and aim for the $2.5k top payout.

This Week’s Fantasy Notes for A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier

These early weeks of the wraparound season are fraught with difficulties for DFS gamers, and we are into something of a suck-it-and-see approach for the next couple of events.

Which players had a productive couple of weeks off? Who are going to carry their form of last season into this – be it good or bad? Who has worked on some swing changes that could make all the difference?

These are questions we won’t really know the answers too until deep into the piece at the Greenbrier, which makes drafting a winning team a tad difficult.

We also have to take into consideration the 50 players that have graduated from the Korn Ferry Tour, be it through the regular season points list or via the Finals.

Some of these players you will know, some will be completely new, and the general feel is that now is the time to get acquainted with them. After all, Cameron Champ won the Sanderson Farms Championship in one of his first starts with the big boys, while Adam Long picked up his maiden title not all that far into the season.

So there’s lots to learn this week, and in the meanwhile we have to try and put a winning draft together!

We have some decent insights to work with at The Old White, handily. Quite simply, the equation here is working out which of the premium ball-strikers will putt the best – that’s typically the formula for success here.

This isn’t a layout that will get overpowered as such, although there will be some monumental drives backed by the altitude on some of the holes without tree-defined contours.

But with wide-enough fairways and large greens, there’s not a huge amount of danger lurking. And with soft conditions likely from the rain, this could be an attack-the-flag style shootout.

And a quick reminder: this is a Par 70 layout with just two Par 5s, so our winner will have to make hay on the Par 4s to post that championship-taking score.
