NEWS: Is There a Suspension Coming for Sergio Gar-See-Ya?

We all make mistakes. No body is perfect. There isn’t a golfer alive who hasn’t lost their temper from time to time. Sergio Garcia is known to have a flair up from time to time.

I’ve obviously had some time to reflect, and want to again say I’m sorry to my fans and fellow competitors. What happened is not an example I want to set, and it’s not who I truly am. I am an emotional player and while I believe that’s one of my biggest strengths, it’s also one of my biggest flaws. I’m focused on working hard to channel that emotion the correct way and to be the best me, learn from it and move forward.”

This is what he had to say after his Bunker meltdown back in February. Besides flipping out in a bunker he reportedly damaged several greens that his fellow competitors had to play on.

He said he was sorry, and you would expect that to be the last tantrum, right? Then we flash forward to the Open Championship in July. Sergio once again gets caught on camera acting like someone you would see at your local muni. He hits a bad shot (as anyone who plays golf is prone to do) and throws his club at his caddie.

Was it the worst thing in the world? No but he’s also a professional, playing in the Open Championship. He’s got corporate obligations so I’m guessing behavior like this doesn’t sit well with his sponsors. Maybe he just had another bad day and he’s frustrated with the weather he (along with everyone else in the field) had to deal with. But not long after this last display of composure Garcia, once again he took his frustration out on the course. After hitting a bad tee shot, he his driver and smashed it into the tee box.

One of these incidents alone shouldn’t be grounds for suspension but considering these three separate occasions have all happened within this one season alone, something should be done. Sergio isn’t the most well-liked player on tour from a fan’s perspective. Even Tiger Woods mother has been known to call him a cry baby. One would think that after he won his first Major (2017 Masters), getting married and having a child he would be a bit more relaxed. His actions have become more and more embarrassing for the tour. At this point the PGA Tour needs to do something about this.

Garcia’s “apologies” don’t mean much when he continues to act the way he does. If shooter McGavin was able to get Happy Gilmore suspended for beating up Bob Barker during a Pro Am, I’m sure the PGA Tour can do something about Sergio Garcia.
