Fantasy Golf Sleeper Report – The Quicken Loans National

2018 Quicken Loans National Fantasy Sleeper Report

The Travelers Championship served up a few pointers that punters can take forward with them for the rest of the season.

Firstly, Paul Casey – a supremely gifted golfer – is not comfortable when leading events overnight into Sunday.

Secondly, Bubba Watson is an absolute don, a shoe-in for the US Ryder Cup team and a contender for any event in which he enters while his form is this hot.

Bubba flew up the leaderboard on Sunday to usurp Casey, Russell Henley and all other contenders to claim his third PGA TOUR title in the space of just three months.

If the Travelers had a high-quality feel with Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth taking to the tee, this week’s Quicken Loans National is anything but.

Rickie Fowler, Tiger Woods and Marc Leishman are worthy headliners of course, but the supporting cast who will take to TPC Potomac is anything but headline-making. Kyle Stanley, as defending champion, will be of interest to punters, but to see the likes of Francesco Molinari, J.B. Holmes and Charles Howell III priced at 33/1 or under and, well, you get the idea.

You can forgive the players for not fancying the trip to Maryland, though. This TPC Potomac course has been likened to a US Open track by many visitors, with the renovation work carried out by Pete Dye, Tom Fazio and the likes increasing the difficulty exponentially.

The fairways are around 35 yards wide – that is ten paces less than those of Shinnecock Hills, and the greens are rather small and super-quick; thus being very difficult to hold.

Kyle Stanley’s winning mark was -7 last year, with just 21 players finishing the tournament under par. If you need any further indicator of how complex this layout is, that is it.

So, we’re looking for a very specific breed of golfer this week; let’s take a look who is on our sleeper shortlist:
