Djokovic & Sharapova Win 2014 China Open

Because of a left knee injury, reigning world number one tennis player Serena Williams withdrew from the China Open after winning her third round match. Going into the finals was Russian Maria Sharapova and Czech Petra Kvitova. The title was claimed by Sharapova with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win. The defeat made it the fifth successive victory over Petra Kvitova.

In the Men’s China Open tournament, Serbian world number one player Novak Djokovic crushed Czech player Tomas Berdych to claim his fifth China Open title in only 66 minutes. The final score was 6-0, 6-2. The Serb’s record shows that he has beaten Marin Cilic in 2009, David Ferrer in 2010, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2012 and in 2013 he defeated Rafael Nadal. The title is the 46th of his career.
