Bridge at Summit, Langkawi

Langkawi – “Lang” being the Malay word for “Eagle” – an Island with many myths and legends of ogres and gigantic birds, warriors and fairy princesses, battles and romances. It is an island of sun and fun, sea and beaches amidst the fabulous tales and legends. It is a popular holiday getaway for tourists and locals. In fact if you are one of those who enjoys experiencing nature without any interference you should avoid weekends and public holidays.

Langkawi is the main island amongst 99 other tropical islands off the north-western coast off Peninsula Malaysia. It is in the state of Kedah. It is a 6hours journey by road from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, to Kuala Kedah and then a 1hour 15minutes ferry ride from jetty to jetty.

There is an Oriental Village towards Pantai Kok, on the upper north-west of the island. Go inside the Oriental Village to get the tickets and board the Cable cars.

To get a spectacular view of Langkawi, take the cable ride up to the summit of Gunung Mat Cincang. From the cable car your eyes will be treated to not only the emerald waters surrounding the many islands and dotted boats and vessels but also the Datai Peninsula. The cable ride provides an exciting thrill as it goes upon quite a steep slope. The whole ride lasts for about 10-15minutes. The cable cars will stop at 2stations. Each station is a circular structure for you to move around to look at the panoramic view of Langkawi. Spend some time here to enjoy the breeze and look beyond at the beautiful sky and sea … dotted with little islands and mountains. The sight is quite breath-taking.

When you arrive at the 2nd cable station (summit of Gunung Mat Cincang), there is a flight of stairs that will lead you down to the magnificent suspension bridge. Go down the steps (some steps are pretty steep) for about 7minutes and you will reach the state-of-the-art suspension bridge. It is surprisingly quite sturdy and you must take a walk. As the bridge is made of real solid steel and suspended with cables made of steel you expect it to at least wobble a little. But this does not happen!
Every moment is worth enjoying and capturing in the camera. Of course the first thing which you remember to pack in your bag is the camera and the binoculars. The flora and fauna are amazing.

At Langkawi you must visit Pulau Payar Marine Park. The children will love it to be here. There will be a lot of fun to actually feel and see the Marine fish so close to the shore. Adults can attempt to put on the Snorkelling gear and get to see corals, napoleons and may be sharks too. There’s also Taman Buaya, the crocodile farm. You can also shop at duty free Kuah town.

If you have a lot of time at your disposal then you can also go island hopping and visiting beautiful beaches. Experience the sun set from Cenang Beach. It’ll be truly an out of the world feeling you will cherish for long.
