Not having the most convincing preseason, The Reds showed that they’re ready when it matters. Jurgen Klopp’s men started their Premier League season with a comfortable 4-1 home victory over Norwich City this past weekend.

That big win will be a positive confidence boost for Liverpool ahead of their midweek cup battle. Klopp’s men will be in a positive mood as they are keen on winning their first trophy this season.

The Blues did not have a great start into their new premier league season following a thumping last week. Frank Lampard’s men saw themselves getting beaten 4-0 at Old Trafford by Manchester United.

Lampard will be hoping that the big defeat won’t give too much impact on his players confidence. Chelsea will need to be at their best if they are really keen on stopping Liverpool on Wednesyda..

Team News

Liverpool

Klopp doesn’t really have too many absentee for this midweek tie apart from Clyne and Alisson. Sadio Mane is still doubtful though due to rest period, but he could play a part in this game.

Losing their number one shot stopper for this tie, means that new arrival Adrian will be in goal. Salah, Origi and Firmino look to be starting this cup tie with Mane potentially coming off the bench.

Chelsea

Lampard is having more problems with unavailable players with Hudson-Odoi, Rudiger all still recovering from injuries. N’Golo Kante’s condition is also in doubt again after picking up another small problem this past weekend.

Christian Pulisic could be picked to play from the start along with Pedro and potentially young talent, Mason Mount.  Up front, Lampard must chose between Tammy Abraham or Olivier Giroud.

Head to Head Records:

In their last five meetings, The Blues actually have a slight edge with two wins, two draws and one defeat.

Their latest match up was on April 14th 2019 in the Premier League which was won by Liverpool 2-0.

Match Prediction

Both teams are looking to showcase their best display and come home with the super cup trophy. After losing against Manchester City in their recent Community Shield tie, The Reds are looking for redemption.

However, Chelsea are not giving up easily as they will be looking to show their potential on Wednesday. Liverpool will be favorite to win, but Lampard’s men can always surprise everyone.

Final Score: 2-1
