Review Summary
I recently watched a video talking about the Fortified company and was very impressed with their methods for design, build and delivery. They follow an agile project methodology which ensures the client (you) is delivered what is needed.
The Fortified City Commuter Theft-Resistant Single Speed Bike has primarily taken into account the high theft rate for bicycles and their components and designed something that is very resistant to theft. But, not only have they taken this design principle on board, they’ve also designed it to be robust with puncture resistant tires and kept the bike lightweight too and delivered a complete package, designed to get you to where you’re going with not having to worry about hassles with punctures or your bike being stolen.
Just overall, a really fantastic product and from recent reports, one of the fastest selling bikes this year!!
Although this bike looks like a man’s bike, there’s plenty of women riding them too.
Price
The Fortified City Commuter Theft-Resistant Single Speed Bike will cost you a bit more than other hybrid bikes. But given you won’t have to worry about it being stolen, and punctures should be a rarity, it’s well worth the extra money.

Quality of the Components
The Fortified City Commuter Theft-Resistant Single Speed Bike components can be broken down into various areas that determine the quality. Each of these components can in isolation drop the overall rating for a bike review, simply because the weakest part may be the area which causes the bike overall to be lower quality, i.e. a low quality seat isn’t really an area for concern as opposed to low quality brakes or gears which make a bike unsafe or hard to use.
Frame: Light weight 6061 Aluminium frame with fixed fork.
Seat: Basic bike seat designed for commuting mainly.
Pedals: Basic pedals.
Brakes: Standard lever/pull brakes. Nice and simple, just be careful if you’re riding downhill to keep your speed under control as you won’t be able to stop in a hurry with this brake configuration as opposed to other bikes with disc brakes.
Gears: Single speed bike meaning you’re riding in more of a casual fashion, i.e. perhaps not designed for uphills.
Wheel set: Standard 700x32c size. The tires are puncture resistant thought making this a really great feature for a commuter bike, much less stress over having punctures.
Weight: Nice light 23 pounds or 10.4 kilograms
East & Costs for Maintenance
If you use the bike a lot, you’re bound to need to do maintenance at some point. That might be as simple as fixing a flat tyre, adjusting the gears or changing brake pads.
The Fortified City Commuter Theft-Resistant Single Speed Bike gets a good mark for ease and cost of maintenance. This is due to the fact that you’ll be able to do a lot of the work yourself. The wheels are able to be removed (but only with the right key). The seat can easily be adjusted too. Because there’s no gears there’s no maintenance required there either.
If any of the work is outside of your comfort zone, any bike shop will be able to do the maintenance for you due to the very common nature of the components and easy access to parts.
Comfort
The bike gets an OK rating for comfort. The seat is close to racing style so a lot less padding and there’s no shock absorption anywhere but that does keep the bike nice and light so well worth the trade off.
One other factor to consider is the lack of fenders. If you bike to work in wet weather or on wet roads, you’re going to get a very wet backside. This is easily resolved with a low cost bike fender available from Amazon.
Look
The Fortified City Commuter Theft-Resistant Single Speed Bike has a nice clean look to it. It looks quick and sturdy, however, you’re not really buying this bike for it’s looks. I’m still giving it a good rating for the look though, simply because it appeals to me.
